Healthcare Application Stabilization and WPF Migration Case Study
This earlier delivery work combined inherited-system stabilization, multi-stream development leadership, and a practical migration from Windows Forms to WPF while user experience issues were being remediated in parallel.

Problem
The project inherited a codebase from a previous development team just as the application needed stabilization for formal testing and production delivery. In the next phase, defect remediation had to continue while user experience proposals were being developed and the application was being moved toward a more modern UI approach.
My role
I served first as a technical leader helping ramp the team into a difficult inherited architecture, then as development lead for a fluctuating team of four to eight developers across onshore and offshore delivery streams.
Key engineering decisions
- Built enough architectural understanding of the inherited system to make defect remediation and ongoing delivery tractable for a larger team.
- Operated multiple development streams in parallel so stabilization work and usability improvements could move without blocking one another.
- Provided deep application and architecture context to user experience specialists so proposed improvements could be grounded in implementation reality.
- Led creation of a functional WPF prototype and guided migration of the existing application from Windows Forms to WPF.
Outcome
The work produced a more stable application, a usable WPF prototype, and a path for incorporating UX improvements without losing control of the ongoing stabilization effort.
Why This Work Still Matters
This was an earlier-generation desktop and healthcare software project, but the leadership problem remains current: inherited systems rarely allow clean-room redesigns, so progress depends on understanding the existing architecture well enough to stabilize, modernize, and coordinate multiple delivery streams at once.
That operating pattern still maps directly to modern backend and platform work, where migrations often run alongside incident reduction, product pressure, and architecture cleanup rather than in isolation.
