Problem
Large teams were shipping across multiple environments with inconsistent tooling, uneven release practices, and limited visibility into environment state. Deployment speed and quality both depended too much on manual coordination.
My role
Across Avanade roles spanning project management, delivery tools leadership, and configuration management, I built internal tooling, defined release and configuration-management practices, and led enablement efforts that improved how teams packaged, deployed, and tracked software.
Key engineering decisions
- Defined automated packaging and deployment flows across websites, SQL environments, and cloud-based virtual machines so releases could be repeated with less manual variance.
- Built environment dashboards and status tracking so teams could see configuration state and deployment progress in real time.
- Enabled automated acceptance testing as a minimum quality gate for deployed code.
- Scaled process adoption through an ALM tools course that trained more than 300 development team leads across global delivery centers.
Outcome
The work improved deployment consistency, reduced friction across teams, increased release visibility, and made delivery practices more teachable and repeatable in large enterprise environments.
Why This Work Still Matters
The tools were pre-cloud-native by today's standards, but the operating concern is unchanged: platform reliability starts long before production incidents. It starts with whether teams can ship safely, observe environment state, and trust the path from change to deployment.
This work fed directly into later thinking about rollout control, operability, and reliability under load in large distributed systems.
